抄録: 1) Adult mongolian dogs were devided into 5 groups with the each gruop consists of 6 dogs. A half number in each group was nephrectomized on the right side. X-ray irradiation was performed to the left kidney with the doses in the 1 st, 2nd, 3 rd and 4th groups being 1, 000r, 1, 500r, 2, 000 and 3, 000r respectively. The 5 th group was researved as control without irradiation. Measurement of blood pressure, alteration of serum biochemical findings and histological pictures at the stage when RI activity was lowered were studied. 2) Blood pressure of normal adult dogs measured by palpating method ranged between 110 and 140 mmHg. In the unilateral kidney groups, increases in blood pressure, averaging 30-40 mmHg, were observed from around 60 to 90 days aften irradiation without difference by the dose given. In the bilateral kidney groups, the increase in blood pressure was not consistent. 3) The mean serum levels in normal adult dogs were 144 mEq/L for Na, 4.3 mEq/L for K, 106 mEq/L for Cl, 4.8 mEq/L for Ca and 9 mg/di for BUN. Following X-ray irradiation, Na showed no definite response and Cl and Ca showed no change, while K showed marked and immediate increase followed by temporal decrease around 50th to 100th postirradiated days and further increase in the terminal stage in all cases. BUN level revealed slow increase by around 50 th post-irradiated day, followed by temporal decrease and rapid increase in the terminal stage. This trend was more pronounced in the unilateral kidney groups. 4) Macroscopically the irradiated kidney showed deformity, adhesion to the surrounding tissue and atrophy of the cortex owing to fibrotic changes. In the bilateral kidney groups, the irradiated kidney weighed less than the otherside in all cases. However, in the unilateral kidney groups the irradiated kidney gained its weight in the 1, 000r and 1, 500r irradiated groups. 5) H i stologically, although the degree of the alteration varried by dose given, all irradiated kidney showed destruction of renal tubuli with fibrous replacement, atrophy with hyaline degeneration of glomeruli, enlargement of Bowman's capsular space, thickening of basal membrane, precipitation of fibrous connective tissure with hyaline degeneration around glomeruli and thickening of wall of blood vessels with narrowing space. Similar findings were also demonstrated in the kidney of non-irradiated side.
