dc.description.abstractDisturbance of spermatogenetic function following administra t i on of various chemical agents, mainly with anti-tumor drugs, was studied in albino rats by means of histological and histochemical observations. The drugs administered to animals were Nitromin, Endoxan, Tespamin, Mitomycin, Merphyrin, Carzinophyllin, Toyomycin and Azaguanin as anti-tumor agents and urethane, colchicine and CdC12 as the other cytotoxic agents. 1) In all animals treated with these dr u gs, disturbances of spermatogenetic function with various degrees were recognized. 2) Among the an i mals given anti-tumor agents, moderate degree of tissue degenerations was produced with Nitromin, Endoxan, Tespamin, Mitomycin and Azaguanin, but disturbance of spermatogenesis was found to be slight in animals given Merphyrin, Carzinophyllin and Toyomycin. In general, alkylating agents produced intenser effects. The appearance time of seminal tubular degeneration after administration was early with Endoxan, Mitomycin, Carzinophyllin and Toyomycin, while it was late with Nitromin, Tespamin, Merphyllin and Azaguanin. Among various stage of cells in seminal tubuli the relatively intenser degenerations were observed in the more immature spermatocytes following administration of the anti-tumor agents. 3) Degenerative changes of seminal tubuli occurred slowly with urethane but rela t ively early with colchicine. The degenerations seemed to extend to the central cell groups such as spermiocytes in animals given urethane or colchicine comparing to that treated with anti-tumor agents. 4) The most pronounce alteration of the testicle was observed in animals given CdCl2. Immediatily after injection of the drug, all seminal tubuli showed marked fatty degeneration and coagulation necrosis with interstitial edema, inflammatory cellular infiltration and fibrosis.en
