抄録: | The report deals with 5 cases of hypercalcemia accompanied with malignant neoplasms (one with urinary bladder carcinoma and 4 with renal carcinoma) seen in the Department of Urology at Kyoto University Hospital for the past 2 years. 1) In 2 out of 4 patients who were operated on r e moval of the tumor, serum calcium level returned to the normal range after operation. Patients who persisted hypercalcemia even after operation had carcinomatous peritonitis and metastasis in the lung. 2) Serum phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase levels wer e within normal in all cases. 3) A trend of normalization in the serum calcium level was seen at the cortison t est. 4) A suppressive effect of the increased urinary phosphorus excretion was observed at the calcium loading test. 5) An incre a se in the urinary phosphorus excretion was encountered at the EllthworthHoward test. 6) A u topsy, performed in 2 cases, revealed no noticeable abnormality in the parathyroid gland and bone system. 7) These re s ults indicated that hypercalcemia accompanied with malignant neoplasm shows different loboratory findings from that in primary hyperparathyroidism. On the basis that the results obtained are resemble to that seen in hypervitaminosis-D, it will be assumed that the substance apparently secreted from neoplastic tissue is vitamin D-like substance. |
