| dc.description.abstract | We report a 47-year-old male patient with a spontaneous ureteral rupture caused by ureteral carcinoma. Drip infusion pyelography (DIP) and computerized tomography (CT) demonstrated the extravasation of contrast medium around the dilated upper ureter. Nephrostography showed the extinction of extravasation 4 days after the DIP. A total nephroureterectomy with the excision of a cuff of bladder was performed for the transitional cell carcinoma of the right lower ureter. Meticulous pathological examination of the specimen revealed discontinuity of the muscle layer, edema and fibrin deposition in the submucosal layers in the upper ureter indicating the site of the rupture. These findings suggest that the spontaneous rupture of the ureter caused by the ureteral carcinoma could be spontaneously repaired in a short period. | en |
