Twenty-six cases of prostatic cancer diagnosed by biopsy at the Department of Urology. Hiroshima University Hospital were classified according to Broders' and Kohlmeier's grades of malignancy as well as stages by Veterans Administration Cooperative Urological Research Group; and the serum enzymatic activities were studied with relation to the c1assifications. The following results were obtained. 1. The patients with prostatic cancer most1y showed the serum LDH activity higher than the control group. The activity was greater as the stage advanced, but less correlation was found to the histological malignancy. 2. Most of the cases showed higher percentage of LDH isoenzymes V and IV than the control group. There was, however, no correlation to malignancy or stages. 3. The percentage of LDH III showed no difference between the patients and control group. It also showed no increase along with the advance of stage and grade. 4. LDH I and II were same as LDH III. 5. The serum alkaline phosphatase activity was higher in many of the patients than the control group. It also increased along with the advance of stage, but not remarkably with the malignancy. 6. The serum leucine aminopeptidase showed the activity within the same limits as the control. Its correlations with stage and grade were not remarkable. 7. Total acid phosphatase and prostatic acid phosphatase activity of the patients were higher than the control, and they tended to increase along with the advance of stage but not remarkably with that of grade. 8. No correlation was found between the activities of alkaline phosphatase and total or prostatic acid phosphatase.en
