Fifty-six patients with newly found bladder tumors were submitted to the enzymological study. All the cases were histologically confirmed as to Broders' and Jewett's classification. Various serum enzyme activities were investigated in relation with the histological evaluation. The following results were obtained. 1) LDH: Bladder tumor patients showed higher LDH activity than the control group. It distributed in a wide range but increased with increment of grade and stage. 2) LDH isoenzymes: Some cases showed higher percentage of LDH-V than the control but no changes with stage and grade. Many of the cases had higher ratio of LDH-IV than the control group, and the ratio increased with degree of malignancy. Other fractions showed no definite tendencies, therefore, it may be said that the diagnostic value of LDH-isoenzymes are somewhat limited. 3) Alkaline phosphatase: Many of the cases showed higher AQP activity than the control group. It also increased with histological grade but not with stage. 4) Leucine aminopeptidase: LAP activity was higher in the bladder tumor group, but there was no change relative to stage or grade. 5) Total and prostatic acid phosphatase: In many of the patients, both were higher than in the control group. Their activities also increased together with progress of stage and histological grade. 6) GOT and GPT: High activities were proved in a patient with metastasis to the liver. There was no change associated with grade and stage.en
