dc.description.abstract1. Intravesical instillation of cephaloridine was done in t he cystitis dogs as well as in the normal dogs. Transfer of the antibiotic into the blood was striking in the former but minimal in the latter. Human inflam ed bladder also showed good transfer of cephaloridine but not so remarkable as in the dogs with cystitis. 2. Radioautograph i c study with "C-chloramphenicol instilled into the normal bladder of mice suggested the presence of two different routes of the movement of antibiotic, 1) bladderkidneybladder and 2) bladder-liver-gallbladder-small intestine-large intestine. The amount of the transfered antibiotic was smaller than in the control animals receiving general administration. 3. The effect of topical cephaloridine upon dog cystitis, particularly upon the microorganisms invading the bladder mucosa, muscular layer, and serosa was investigated by bioautography combined with TTC test. Bacteriostatic effect began in 4 hours after instillation and became complete in 16 hours. These were quite similar as in the control group of general administration. In th e lower urinary tract infection, the topical antibiotic treatment may be effective just as its general administration.en
