抄録: The method of strengthened roentgenography has become popular recently. In urology, DIP has been widely accepted and several different methods were advocated. On the other hand, the importance of standard IVP is ever increasing as one of the screening tests of urinary diseases. For standard IVP, 20 ml of contrast medium has been used, but contrast effect has been often insufficient in those patients with impaired renal function or obesity. This often invited difficulties in diagnosis, requiring more improvement for distinct pyelograms. In view of this, we have, since three years ago, practiced double dose technique in routine in which twice the amount of contrast medium was administered, and have obtained satisfactory contrast effect. We have administered double dose of Conray 400 (iothalamate 66.8 %) to 50 patients this time; and have investigated its contrast effect, side effect, and the advantage of double dose technique. (1) Satisfactory x-ray pictures of renal pelvis, renal calyces, and ureter were obtained in 49 patients out of 50 cases (98 %). (2) Conray 400 can be injected with ease, enabling rapid intravenous injection. (3) Side effects were slight and temporary in all the cases, giving serious condition to none of the patients. (4) Double dose technique is a roentgenography that may be evaluated as an intermediate method between standard IVP and DIP, and it can be said to be a very useful method having the merits of these two methods.
