Thiophenicolによる尿路感染症の治療効果

Abstract

Thiophenicol (TP), one of the derivatives of chloramphenicol (CP), is an excellent chemotherapeutic agent in comparison with CP in absorption and urinary excretion. TP was given to 63 outpatients suffering from the urinary tract infections including 54 Cases of acute cystitis, 4 cases of chronic cystitis. 3 cases of urethritis and 2 cases of pyelonephritis. TP was administered for 7 days 1.5 to 2.0 g daily divided three times. The results were summarized as follows; 1) The clinical response was excellent in 23 (36.5 %), effective in 35 (55.6 %) of 63 cases as to clinical signs of the urinary tract infections. and bacteriological response was excellent in 22 (34.9 %) and effective in 36 (57.1 %). 2) Side effects were seen in three cases (4.8 %), namely stomatitis in one case and gastro-intestinal discomfort in two cases. 3) It is evaluated that TP is a useful antibacterial agent not only for acute urinary tract infections, but also for chronic urinary tract infections.
