中部労災病院における脊髄損傷患者の死亡症例

Abstract

During the period from 1955 to 1975, 403 paraplegic patients have been discharged, including 34 deaths, from Chubu Rosai Hospital, Nagoya. The crude mortality rate was 8.4 per cent. The mortality rate has been the highest in cervical lesion. Twenty-one patients (61 per cent) died within 5 years since injury. Average survival period of all patients was calculated 5.4±5.3 years. The average survival period in cervical lesion was 2.8±4.3 years, 4.8±3.7 years in dorsal and 8.1±5.2 years in lumbosacral lesion. Patients over 50 years of age at time of injury have shown the highest mortality rate and the shortest survival period. Renal disease is the most common cause of death, found in 13 patients (38 per cent), followed by respiratory disease in 7 patients (21 per cent). Mortality rate and survival period of the latest 5-year-period have been found the lowest and the longest respectively comparing to those of 1960s.
