dc.description.abstractA case of metastasis of gastric cancer to both ureters was reported. A 62-year-old house wife was admitted because of anuria and bilateral flank pain. Roentgen examination of the genito-urinary tract revealed no evidence of calculous disease at any point in the urinary tract. Retrograde pyelography indicated the upper halves of both ureters to be stenotic. Blood urea nitrogen was elevated. Exploratory laparotomy revealed the metastatic cancer of the left ureter. The patient had left nephrostomy. After the operation she complained of hematemesis and sense of fullness in the upper abdomen. Upper gastro-intestinal series showed an inoperable gastric cancer. The patient gradually went downhill and died. Autopsy revealed both ureters thickened throughout their entire lengths, but their serosal surface was smooth and lustrous. Histologic examination revealed that the neoplastic cells compatible with metastatic gastric cancer were diffusely found in the submucosal and muscular layers of the both ureters.en
