dc.description.abstractA 48-year-old woman was admitted because of a huge abdominal mass which was later diagnosed as retroperitoneal cyst through the examinations such as DIVP, barium enema, retroperitoneal pneumography, aortography, venacavagraphyand 99mTc-DMSA renal scintigraphy. The compression over the lower pole of the right kidney was remarkable on IVP. Retroperitoneal cyst was surgically removed. Histological examination revealed the serous cyst without malignancy. Fluid contained in the cyst was clear and submitted to the biochemical study. This is the 14th reported case of retroperitoneal cyst in Japan. A discussion was made on this disease particularly about diagnosis, sex, age, chief complaint, treatment and prognosis.en
