複雑性尿路感染症に対する長期化学療法の検討

Abstract

The trials of low-dose prophylactic drug regimen which consists of trimethoprim 40-80 mg in combination with sulfamethoxazole 200-400 mg daily were performed to 47 patients with complicated and intractable urinary tract infections to prevent the recurrence. 1) Average frequency of the recurrence per year was 3.57 before prophylactic therapy and decreased to 0.39 during the treatment. 2) Recurrence by resistant bacteria against this regimen was observed in 14 cases during the therapy. 3) Reinfection was detected in 6 patients within 6 months after stopping treatment, while other 6 patients had no evidence of reinfection during 6 months of follow-up. 4) Side effects were not observed except for 2 patients; one of them showed generalized urticarial rash and another patient complained of severe nausea during the treatment. The symptoms disappeared by changing the regimen to nitrofurantoin 50 mg daily.
