dc.description.abstractWe carried out fundamental and clinical studies on the new antibacterial agent, Cinoxacin (CINX), and obtained the following results. 1. In vitro antibacterial activity of CINX against 23 strains of E. coli, 3 strains of P. mirabilis and 2 strains of K. pneumoniae isolated from the urine of cystitis cases was satisfactory. However, in 1 strain of S. faecalis isolated from the urine of cystitis case it showed no satisfactory activity. 2. Clinical Evaluation 1) Thirty-three women with simple acute cystitis were treated with CINX in daily dose 400 mg for 5 days, all with excellent response. 2) Eleven cases with complicated chronic cystitis (all without indwelling catheter) were treated at random with CINX in daily dose 400-800mg for 5-7 days, and 9 cases showed the excellent response. S. faecal is was isolated from the urine of 2 cases of poor response. 3. Side effect was observed in only 1 case of total 50 cases, in which a slight thirst was seen during the treatment.en
