後腹膜腫瘍と思われた虫垂粘液瘤の1例

Abstract

A case of mucocele of the appendix simulating retroperitoneal tumor was reported. A 64-year-old woman was found to have well-defined, movable mass in the abdomen. Laboratory findings were normal. The findings of IVP, barium enema and aortography were compatible with retroperitoneal tumor. Ultra-sonography revealed the echo-free mass which seemed to have connection with pelvic cavity. The tumor, measuring 12cm×8cm×8cm, was removed with ascending colon through pararectal incision. The pathological examination showed mucocele of the appendix. In this case only the ultra-sonographic study had the clue to correct diagnosis. The relationship between mucocele and pseudomyxoma peritonei was discussed briefly.
