抄録: | The incidence of radiation cystitis is very low compared to that of other types of cystitis. During the 15 years from 1965 to 1980, the authors have seen 27 patients with radiation cystitis as a consequence of radiotherapy with or without prior extensive total hysterectomy for uterine cancer (18, and 4 cases) or after Miles' operation for rectal cancer (3 cases) or partial cystectomy for bladder cancer (2 cases). They include 22 females, and 5 males, ranging from those in their thirties to seventies; the majority was over 50. Hematuria was observed in most of the cases, and other common symptoms were pollakiuria, miction pain and incontinence. Six patients had early onset of symptoms, i.e., within one year after radiotherapy; and, 21 cases had late onset, the majority of which had manifestation within 3 years. One characteristic observation by cystoscope was telangiectasia, which was present in 80% of the cases. The basic rule for treatment was to rely on the combination of chemotherapeutic agents, analgesic spasmolytic, and hemostats, except in 3 cases in which hemostasis could not be obtained and intravesical instillation of 4% formalin was used to make management successful. |
