Abstract: For the landscape planning, it is necessary to reveal how people have been appreciated and conserved the landscape. In the early years of the Showa era, the evaluation of the landscape in Sagano had been changing. Guidebooks showed some new objects of sightseeing, and Otsuka and other writers began to describe the beauty of the landscape of Sagano, not in a traditional way. Administration also began to conserve the landscape especially its natural environment with the intension of economic development, as seen in the Ogurayama Park planning. This paper aims to examine that how people appreciated the landscape of Sagano in that times, with the analysis of histrical material as guidebooks and notes for tourists, and administrative documents concerning the landscape conservation in Sagano.
