島根・広島県境地域、三瓶山東麓周辺の地震活動

Abstract

島根・広島県境地域では、2003年3月から5月にかけて、Mj=3.3～4, 3の地震3個を含む群発的な活動が発生した。これを契機にこの地域の地震活動を調べた。2002年7月～2003年6月の期間に発生したMj≧3.5の7個の地震のうち、4個は同一面上で発生したことがわかった。メカニズム解は、ひとつの地震を除いて、P軸をE-W～ENE-WSWの間にもつstrike-slip型であった。B値は0.71と小さい。この地域では、1950年代前半と1970年代後半に地震活動が活発であり、最大の地震は1978年6月4日のMj=6.1であった。このような地震活動の特徴には鳥取県西部地域との類似性が見られる。

In the Shimane-Hiroshima boarder region, swarm-like seismic activity containing three earthquakeswith Mj = 3.8?4.3 from March to May in 2003. We investigated the seismic activity in this area. Sevenearthquakes with Mj > 3.5 occurred in the period from July 2002 to June 2003. We found that four ofthem occurred on a fault plane. Six of them had strike-slip type focal mechanisms with their P axes inthe direction between E ? W and ENE ? WSW. The b-value of events on the eastern foot of Mt. Sanbewas 0.71. In this region the seismic activity was high in the early 1950s and in the late 1970s. Thelargest earthquake with Mj = 6.1 occurred on June 4, 1978. The above features are similar to those inthe Western Tottori region.
