近代山王祭りの原点--官幣大社日吉神社史の一齣

Abstract

本稿は，日吉大社の山王祭りを課題にするもので，その歴史的原点を明らかにすることを目的とする。原始的とも，古代的とも言われている山王祭りがはたして，いつ，どのようにして形成されてきたかを実証的に吟味する。山王祭りの研究が存在しない訳ではもちろんない。景山春樹の「日吉社の神体山信仰」は古典的な論文で，その影響の下で書かれた研究も相当ある。 しかし山王祭りを原始的，古代的と位置づけるこれらの研究は，方法論的に問題があり，実証性に欠けて，情緒的にアプローチした箇所も伺え，我々は従ってその定説となっている結論を更に吟味する必要がある。筆者は，お祭りが常に自らを再生産し，再創出するもので，同時に自らの起源を隠して，それを遠い過去，神話の時代に置こうとする性格のものだ，という自覚をもって，山王祭りの原点を探ることにする。なお，本研究は，筆者の2008年のブイールドワークおよび近世，近代の歴史史料の実証的考察をそのベースとする。

The research on which this article is based is a combination of fieldwork and analysis of historical resources.
