Abstract: | In the last stage of Le dynaty in Viet Nam the Nguyen Le 阮儷 faction fought the hard fight of political leadership against the Hoang Dinh Bao 黄廷寳 faction while, in the problem of succession to Trinh Sam 鄭森 Nguyen Le supported Khai, the eldest son of Trinh Sam, in conspiracy with eunach Nguyen Phuong Dinh 阮芳挺 and his company on the one hand, Hoang Dinh Bao supported Ca'n 檊, the son of Dang Thi Hue 鄧氏蕙 who was the favorite concubine of Trinh Sam, in conspiracy with her on the another hand. Hoang Dinh Bao won the confidence of Trinh Sam through Dang Thi, gained possession of the political leadership in the government, baffled the conspiracy of the Nguyen Le faction, and forcefully helped Ca'n into the position of the Crown Prince. When, after that, Trinh Sam went to another world and Ca'n ascended the throne, the Nguyen Le faction stirred up the army in Hanoi to rise into rebellion, killed Hoang Dinh Bao, deposed Ca'n and put Khai into the throne. But this event brought upon the arbitrariness of the army and at last put this dynasty into disorder. And then Nguyen Huu Chinh, the pupil of Hoang Dinh Bao, sought refuge in the Tay-son party and persuaded this party to encroach upon the territory of the Trinh family and undertook to revenge the enemy of Hoang Dinh Bao. This was the reason why the Tay-son party encroached upon the Northern territory of the Trinh family. |
