抄録: | Types of corvee in the T'ang (唐) Dynasty, such as fang-ko (防閤), pai-chih (白直), ch'in-shih (親事), chang-nei (帳内), chang-shen (仗身), sui-shen (随身), etc., have their origin in the Six Dynasties. Those who were engaged.in this kind of corvee were at that time the entourage organized as bodyguards for the warlords who had the central and local administrative power. The competent group which took over the administrative power at the end of Later Han (後漢) appointed their dependents and followers as officials and soldiers. As the ages went on, the superiority and the control of the emperor over the warlords became stronger. As the result of this, many kinds 'of bodyguards were changed into a guard of honour, appointed by the emperor and Iimited in number. The warlords became the emperor's bureaucrats, and their private followers, the office-boys. |
