<研究ノート>創成期の用語「カシミーリーヤット」について

Abstract

カシミール問題／紛争の分析にしばしば用いられる用語「カシミーリーヤット」が歴史的に初めて登場したのは1970 年代半ばのことである。一般化した現在のカシミーリーヤット概念は主にカシミール人のエスニック・アイデンティティー、もしくはカシミール独特のセキュラーな諸宗教混在文化を指すが、創成期におけるこの用語の意味・用法はこれとはやや異なるものだった。本稿では、これまで顧みられることのほとんどなかったこの用語誕生のいきさつとこれをとり巻くカシミールの政治・文化状況に光を当て、この用語が1970 年代半ばに登場した必然性は何だったのか、そしてこの用語の創成期の意味・用法がその後別のものにとって代わられたことの意味は何なのかについて考察を試みる。

The term 'Kashmiriyat' is of relatively recent origin (mid-1970s) and its meaning has undergone several changes since then. Yet during the early 1990s, while the secessionist militancy in Kashmir was at its peak, a set of meanings (secular syncretism as the essence of Kashmiri tradition; ethnic sub-nationalism of Kashmiri Muslims) was given and fixed to the term in the Indian/international public discourse on Kashmir, and this created the dominant usage of the term still prevalent today. This paper traces the little-studied history of the term 'Kashmiriyat' from its birth in the mid-1970s, and contemplates the historical significance of the term's creation.
