Abstract: | This study is concerned with the historical development of the Egyptian Sufi orders in the mamluk and early Ottoman periods. I sought to trace how the Sufism of religious adepts combined the popular religion of lay affiliates. In this paper an attempt was made to maintain that the Egyptian Sufi orders, especially the Ahmadiyya order, as popular movements became influential from the 15th to 16th centuries as a result of Mawlid movement. |
