Abstract: In this article, the author investigates the following two points in a transition stage from the medieval society to an early-modern one, in the western district of Si-chuan 四川 (Xi-chuan西川). (1) One is the development of the early-modern social relation which started from Chen-du 成都 and expanded to its environments. In detail, the points of his argument are the developing process of small farmers' management establishing itself, and corresponding with it, the making of a new agrarian communal relation, and a change in quality of the medieval great landholding, and a growth of the modern principles of law. (2) The other is the process of the making and dissolution of the smaller regional peculiarities in the Xi-chuan 西川 districts, caused by the development as stated above (1). In detail, we can see an increase of a new productive power in the central area of Xi-chuan, especially in the early Tang 唐 period, and in its environments, in the middle of Tang era, and in the border district of Xi-chuan, in the beginning of Bei-sung 北宋 period. Corresponding with this phenomenon, in these three parts of Xi-chuan districts in question, at this period there could be seen the process of the making and dissolution of the regional peculiarities.
