抄録: The "Entry on Seongssi" of the "Treatise of Geography" of the Sejong-Sillok is an invaluable source for the history of Korea of the Koryeo 高麗 and early Yi Dynasty 李朝 periods. Up to now, however, the "Entry on Seongssi" has not been studied as such, thus in this article I concentrated on this very text and analyzed it using the two texts underlying it. The "Entry on Seongssi" is ultimately based on two texts, on the Koryeo period text Kocheok 古籍 and on the Kwan 關 of the Yi Dynasty. The latter being a report by the inspector of the various provinces assembles all the seongssi in the various administrative units at the time of Sejong. The former is a compilation of seongssi in use in the latter half of the 13th and the first half of the 14th centuries, which was made by the same way of Kwan. In the early Koryeo period, villages were one-family-name organized, i.e., people's pongwan 本貫 would generally correspond with their place of residence. Towards the later Koryeo period the people became more mobile and generally there were more people living away from their pongwan. Since the "Entry on Seongssi" of the Sejong-Sillok is a compilation of seongssi, with their pongwan in the various administrative units, it reflects the social changes that took place around the end of the Koryeo and beginning of the Yi Dynasty periods partly. However, it must be properly kept in mind that the "Entry on Seongssi" did not record all the seongssi since the early Koryeo period.
