抄録: The 735 Bilga qaɣan inscription refers to the accession to the throne of himself, and there are problems with the exceptional order of the four quarters and the lacunae in the thirteenth and fourteenth lines of its southern face. Judging from the composition of the text, the length of the lacunae and the possibilities for the missing words, it seems possible that the enumeration of high officials and tribal chiefs on the inscription for the time of accession to the throne of Bilga qaɣan records the situation in which all those who assembled from "west, east, [south and north]" for the ceremony. On the other hand, this interpretation concerning the high officials and tribal chiefs, when taken together with the words of Bilga qaɣan recorded at the beginning of the southern face of Kol tigin inscription, makes it possible that the men who assembled from all quarters were arranged in two lines on the south and north to listen to Bilga qaɣan's address. The Turkic "nationalism" the evidence of which can be found from the inscription, was expressed in Bilga qaɣan's words which should be considered as spoken in or soon after 716 in connection with the enthronement ceremony. It must be differentiated from evidence in the final passage on the southern face which dates from the time when the stele was erected.
