抄録: | The offices for the control of foreign peoples were first established during the Han 漢 period, and subsequently many new office were set up during the Chin 晋 era. Many similar offices were also established by the kingdoms of the Five Hu 五胡. In these, however, there were many variations from the established structure due to the fact that these kingdoms themselves were nominally controlled by the regnant Chinese dynasties. It is through these variations in the structure of the offices for the control of foreign peoples that the kingdoms of the Five Hu made manifest their views of foreign peoples. In this paper I analyze both the function of these offices and the peoples they controlled. l then compare these with the similar offices Under the Chin, in order to determine the distinct nature of the kingdoms of the Five Hu's views of foreign peoples. I conclude that the Former Chao 前趙, Later Chao 後趙, Former Yen 前燕, Former Ch'in 前秦 and Later Ch'in 後秦 held distinct views of foreign peoples which differed significantly from views held by Chinese dynasties. The policies developed by the kingdoms of the Five' Hu to control foreign peoples were based on these distinct views. |
