ツバメ,カモメなどの展望車にてよみあぢはいしことありけり : 新村出旧蔵柳田国男著作の書入を読む

Abstract

国民的辞書「広辞苑」の編者として名高い新村出が日本民俗学の創始者・柳田国男と終生親交を結び続けたことの学史的意義は, これまで, ほとんど検討されることがなかった。筆者は, 大阪市立大学学術情報総合センター・新村文庫, 新村出記念財団・重山文庫, 成城大学民俗学研究所・柳田文庫に所蔵される二人の著作に記された書入の分析から, 二人の学問的交流をトレースした。その結果, 二人が長期間にわたって意見交換や資料交換を行い, 互いの学問を深く信頼・尊重しあっていたことが確認された。また, 二人の交流は, 柳田民俗学と京都大学の文化史学派を結びっけた接点としても重要な役割を果たしていた。このように, 新村出旧蔵書の膨大な書込は, 近代日本の人文科学を捉え直すための, きわめてユニークな資料である。

Izuru Shinmura, a famous linguist as the editor of the Japanese—language dictionary Kojien and Kunio Yanagita, well—known as the founder of the Japanese folklore studies, enjoyed their lifelong friendship, of which the implication had rarely been considered. This paper studies their relationship through the analysis of Shinmura's handwritten notes on Yanagita's books in the Shinmura's personal library now located both in the Osaka City University Media Centre and the Shinmura Izuru Memorial Foundation. These notes show their frequent exchanges of comments and books, which tells us their deep confidence. Moreover, their friendship provided some important opportunities for the collaboration of Yanagita's folklore school and the cultural history school of Kyoto Imperial University.
