胡萬春という作家

Abstract

This brief paper is divided into the following three parts. 1. The place of the new writer Hu Wan-ch'un 胡萬春 in contemporary Chinese literature. 2. A description of the author's upbringing based on autobiographical materials. 3. A critique of his work. The first part makes clear Hu Wan-ch'un's position as a writer who emerged from among the industrial workers of present day Shanghai, in contrast to Chao Shu-Ii, the principal figure in contemporary Chinese literature, who comes from a peasant background. It also considers the relationship between Hu Wan-ch'un and other writers who deal with the theme of industrial production such as Chou Li-po, Ai Wu, and Ts'ao Ming. The second part presents a translation of the autobiographical materials on the author's life and explains the process of his ideological and literary growth. The third part discusses the author's works, concentrating in particular upon the literary effect produced by the fusion of emotional image and ideology in Hu Wan-ch'un's writings.
