Among those which parameterize cumulus convection, the "penetrative moist convection (PMC) scheme" and the "convective adjustment (CA) scheme" are compared with each other by applying them to a simple numerical model. A main difference between them appears in the vertical distribution of warming. The warming in the PMC scheme has characteristics of penetrative convection, whereas that in the CA scheme hardly penetrate into a stable layer. Features found in precipitations and stabilities for perturbations of different wavelengths are discussed as well as for each of the schemes. Some variations of these two schemes are also examined.en
