| Abstract: | A well-developed medusa of Atorella vanhoeffeni Bigelow, 1909 (Cnidaria, Scyphozoa, Coronatae) was collected on November 11, 1995, as the second record of this genus in Japanese waters. Based on this specimen, a description is provided along with photographs. A morphological comparison is made between the present species and Atorella japonica Kawaguti and Matsuno, 1981 from the Sea of Japan near Oki Island, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. 日本初記録のAtorella vanhoefeni Bigelow, 1909(刺胞動物門, 鉢虫網,冠クラゲ目) のクラゲを, これまでただ1 個体だけであるが南西諸島から生きたまま採取できたので, 写真撮影し形態を記載した.4個の黄色の生殖巣を形成した本個体は完全には成熟しておらず性の判別はできなかった. 本種を, 成熟個体が不明だがポリプと遊離したてで生殖巣なしのエフイラが記載されている島根県隠岐島産の同属既知種Atorella japonica Kawaguti and Matsuno, 1981と比較した. |
