抄録: This report deals with a research on the tensile strength of wire ropes deformed by the copressive load, as a contribution to the safety of the logging operation which the wire ropes are used. The method and condition of this experiment are as follows: 1) Wire rope used in the experiment: (1) Wire rope construction: 6×7 wires, Langlay Standard diameter: 16, 18, 20 and 24 mm (2) Wire rope construction: 6×19, 6×24 wires, Ordinarylay Standard diameter: 9, 10 and 12 mm 2) Testing conditions: The conditions of deformation given to the wire rope are as follows: (1) In the case of 6×7 wire rope. (a) Two wire ropes are compressed by a clip. (b) Compressive load: 1.0~3.5 ton (2) In the case of 6×19 or 6×24 wire rope. (a) Two crossing wire ropes are compressed on the tool. (b) Compressive load: 1.0~3.85 ton (c) Crossing angle of wire rope: 45°, 90° (d) Tool: plane, ditchs (1× and 2× standard diameter of wire rope) 3) The results in this experiment. (1) In the case of 6×7 wire rope. The deformation is little and the decreasing of breaking force is about 3%. (2) In the case of 6×19, 6×24 wire rope. (a) The deformation of 6×24 wire rope is little than 6×19 wire rope under the same compressive load, and the decreasing of the breaking force is so. (Look Table 15 and 16) (b) The more the crossing angle of wire rope is, the more the deformation is, and so is the decreasing of the breaking force. (3) In the case of the ditch (2× standard diameter of wire rope), the deformation and decreasing of the breaking force of wire rope are greater than the other case.
