Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to construct a theoretical model for the explanation of the variety of the conflict issues. Section 2 shows the variety of conflict issues from available international aggregate dataset: World Handbook of Political and Social Indicators (III). Section 3 discusses two leading social movement theories-- "the theory of Political Opportunity Structure" (POS) and Action Sociology--, and two theories about the social

institutional structure-- Welfare Regime Theory and "the theory of the Structure of the Beneficial Sphere and Costly Sphere." It becomes clear that each of theories is inadequate to explain the variety of conflict issues. Section 4 shows the "Complex Regime Model (CRM)" for the explanation of the variety of the conflict issues. From the perspective of CRM, it estimates the distribution of conflict issues in each welfare regime, and verifies some hypothesis.
