<論文>『ノーサンガー・アビー』における視線に関する考察

Abstract

In Jane Austen's novels, people are characterized through dialogue and the female protagonists correct their mistakes by talking about them. This paper argues that not only their conversations but also the eyes of the protagonists play important roles. Here, we consider Northanger Abbey and examine descriptions of characters' eyes to understand and show their role in portraying the relationship between characters. In addition, we will also consider other novels by Austen, examining other factors such as conversations and the letters. Moreover, we acknowledge the significance of Northanger Abbey in her novels.
