<論文>日系２世のアイデンティティ形成における言語の影響と役割 -- 継承語教育の観点から子どもの心を解く

Abstract

本論文は、1990年代以降のグローバル化や情報化社会の発展に伴う日本人の海外進出の中で、移民として日本から海外へ永住予定で移住した日本人の子ども、いわゆる日系2世が経験する言語文化を跨ぐアイデンティティ形成の過程、また人間の意思疎通において言語がどのようにその子どもたちの中に作用していくのかということについて、彼らが創り出す文化自体をコンタクト・ゾーンとして捉え、考察する。近年、子どもの第二言語習得についての可能性が注目され、多言語教育や国際教育の研究が行われる一方で、それに伴うアイデンティティ形成への影響についての研究が副次的になっているという問題がある。そこで、本研究は、言語習得における技能面を問うのではなく、対象者が複言語主義の環境下で成長していく上での心の葛藤についての情報収集を行い、先行研究と対照させ議論することが目的である。研究対象者は、幼児から思春期後半までの日系2世とし、筆者が英国で2015年に行った研究結果をもとに、ドイツで2016年に、より社会学的な観点から行ったインタビュー調査も含め考察した。情報提供者の語りから、対象者の母語、継承語、外国語の習得目的の相違点を整理すると、母語と継承語の習得の使用役割が個々の帰属意識と密接に関わっており、それらの言語を人間関係や状況に合わせ、対象者は意識的にも無意識的にも言語を選択していることがわかった。それは同時に、彼らが各言語に内在する「自分」を選択することにも関連し、各言語が持っているコミュニティにおける経験の蓄積は、その言語における「自分の存在」を肯定する役割をも担い、ひとりの人間のアイデンティティの構成要素の一部であることが理解できる。

As a result of globalisation and developments in information technology since the 1990s, more Japanese have been leading internationally mobile lifestyles. In many cases, the children of Japanese immigrants, (referred to as "second-generation immigrants") live within a cultural "contact zone" that combines the cultures of their parents' culture and their host countries. This paper traces the process of how these second-generation Japanese children form their own cultural and selfidentities while straddling multiple linguistic cultures, and examines the role of language in their contact zone. Despite the growing body of research on multilingual and international education as secondlanguage acquisition, the impact of these trends on identity formation has not received much attention. The purpose of this study is not to review the technical aspects of language acquisition, but rather, to gather data on internal conflicts felt by subjects growing up in multilingual environments and examine this data within the context of existing research. The study, which expands on previous studies conducted by the author in the UK in 2015, was conducted in Germany in 2015, and involved conducting interviews with parents and children who were secondgeneration Japanese immigrants aged between infancy and late adolescence. By gathering and reviewing data on each subject's perceptions and objectives for learning their mother, heritage and other languages, this study found a strong link between the role of learning one's mother and heritage languages and one's sense of belonging, and observed that the subjects consciously and subconsciously select language based on specific relationships and situations. This relates to each subject's selection of a "self " as identified within each language, and demonstrates how each language is infused with community-specific experiences that play a role in affirming one's sense of self within the context of that language, and how language thus constitutes a structural component of one's self-identity.
