<実践報告>京都大学における英語教育改革 --英語ライティング-リスニングコースに焦点を当てて--

Abstract

本稿は、平成28年度から施行した京都大学の教養・共通教育における英語の新カリキュラムの理念と目的を中心に、その実施体制を詳説したものである。新カリキュラムでは、これまでのカリキュラムを踏襲しつつ、その理念である「学術的教養」と「学術的言語技能」の習得をより意識した科目設計を行った。そこでは、一回生で英語リーディングおよび英語ライティング-リスニングの2科目を必修科目として提供し、主として二回生以上に新たにE科目(英書講読、英語講義、英語技能)を設定することとした。本稿では、これらのうち英語ライティング–リスニングコースに焦点を当てて説明する。本コースでは、1クラス約20名の編成を実現し、対面授業できめ細かな指導を実現する一方、オンラインによるリスニング課題を導入し、自律的に英語学習に取り組む仕組みを取り入れている。また、国際高等教育院附属国際学術言語教育センターの教員が中心となって授業担当の教員を支える運営チームを結成し、教員懇談会をはじめとする担当教員や学部との連携を重視した取り組みを展開している。

This paper describes the philosophy, purpose, and implementation of the new English curriculum in the Liberal Arts and General Education at Kyoto University in 2016. The new curriculum draws on the philosophy of the previous curriculum, but puts more emphasis on a course design that promotes the acquisition of "academic culture" and "academic language skills." It offers the two compulsory courses of reading and writing-listening for the first-year students, as well as "E" classes (English literature etc., lectures in English, and English skills) designed for second-year students and above. This paper focuses on the writing-listening course for all first-year students. The number of students in each section of this course is limited to about 20 students, allowing for high-quality learner-centered instruction. The course also includes on-line listening tasks which aim to foster autonomous learning. In addition, a management team is organized by faculty members of the International Academic Research and Resource Center for Language Education (i-ARRC) of the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (ILAS), which holds teacher feedback meetings to enhance the collaboration between language teachers and content specialists.
