<特集論文 2>家の記憶と家族の物語--アルゼンチンの世俗的ユダヤ人における記憶の場と継承

Abstract

ユダヤ人は記憶との関係において特権的な民族として論じられてきた。すなわち、幾度の追放とディアスポラの状況下におかれながらも世代を跨いで記憶を継承する記憶の民、あるいは書物を継承し再解釈を続ける書物の民としてのユダヤ人である。本稿の目的は、想起の媒体、特に家に保管される家族写真をめぐる語りや書かれた物語に着目し、ユダヤ人にまつわる<記憶=書物>という等号関係を再考することである。記憶の場としての家に着目した場合、家や家の中に置かれる家族写真といった媒体が「人格の拡張」として身体的な記憶の場を構成することが理解される。他方で、記憶が継承される過程に焦点を当てた場合、継承には二種類の論理が存在する。ある事例では、親から子へと継承される記憶の「家族的な継承」がユダヤ的な倫理として語られ、写真や物語はかけがえのない個人によって共有される。他方で、同様に物語が語られ/書かれるという契機により、家族をめぐる記憶が普遍的な集合的記憶として共有される可能性もある。こうした個別性と普遍性との間の揺らぎが、写真という媒体と書かれた媒体との間の相互交渉によって描かれる。家、写真、書かれた物語といった想起の媒体は、それぞれに異なる範囲の人に向かって記憶を想起させるものだが、本稿では、そのいくつかの組み合わせを通じ、ユダヤ的な記憶のあり方を呈示する。

Jewish people have been called the "people of memories, " as they have been able to transmit their memories under generations of exile. They are also known as the "people of book, " as they have been able to transmit their books and their interpretations of them over time. In this article, I examine Jewish memories transmitted through family photographs and narratives as mediums of memory. In particular, I examine four cases of Argentine Jewish families that are mostly secular in nature. When focusing on the house as a site of memories, both houses and the family photographs contained within can be interpreted as extensions of the people living within these houses. In combination, houses, photos, and written stories have all been used as mediums of recollection to share Jewish memories. These refer to the two types of memory transmission: familial and affiliative "postmemory". In some cases, familial transmission of memory is mentioned as Jewish ethics. Family pictures and stories are transmitted personally through family photos and history. In another cases, memories of a family can be shared as universal collective memory.
