Abstract: | While the Central Council for Education's report and revision of the Course of Study is promoting Proactive, Interactive and Deep Learning, the style of learning has diversified. With increasing awareness of learning style in which a student does not attend school every day, I analyzed the contemporary meaning of self-study as compared to Proactive, Interactive and Deep learning. In this study, the definition of self-study is a learning style conducted independently by learners not located in the same place as the teacher. As analyzed subjects, correspondence high school and Certificate for Students Achieving the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates were picked up. In addition, utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) was also taken into consideration of. As a result, (1) Proactive, Interactive and Deep learning is compatible with self-study, because it does not refer to specific teaching or learning methods, but also puts emphasis on "Individualized teaching, " (2) Self-study fully covers proactive learning and deep learning, and may rather have the possibility of being superior to them, (3) It is also possible to deal with interactive learning by using ICT or social network services. In conclusion, present day self-study can be regarded as one of the learning styles actively selected according to the purpose and characteristics of individual learners. |
