<論説>天子の衣裳の「十二章」

Abstract

『尚書』の益稷篇の中に、古代の天子の衣裳に着けられた図柄として一二種のものの名が列挙されてゐる。これが「十二章」である。最近の中国考古学の発達によつて知られるに至つた豊富な発掘品の中から、益稷篇及びその注釈と同時代の遺物に表はされた「十二章」夫〻に対応する紋様を探し、更にその紋様の淵源をたづねることにより漢時代に早くわからなくなりかけてゐた「十二章」が、どのやうな図柄であつたかを確かめ、そのやうなものが古く天子の衣裳につけられたとする所伝の由来を明かにした。

"Twelve patterns" of the Chinese emperor's garments are enumerated in the chapter of I-chi in Shang-shu. This article tried to find out each of the "twelve patterns" among the archaeological finds contemporary with the formation of the chapter of I-chi 益稷篇 of Shang-shu and its notes. Owing to the recent development of chinese archaeology, we succeeded in identifying the "Twelve Patterns" which knoledge obliterated early in Han period. By this new identification, we were also able to explain the origin of the legend that these patterns decorated the emperor's garments.
