<論説>紀伊国荒川荘の領主と農民

Abstract

鎌倉末・南北朝期から室町期にかけては、一般に荘園制の衰退期とされているが、高野山領荘園も同じく動揺の時期をもちながら、十五世紀に入っていわゆる「分田支配」という形で、膝下の諸荘を中心に荘園支配体制の再編成が行なわれた。この動揺から再編成の過程とその意味するところとを、在地構造の変動との関連で明らかにすることは、高野山領の特質を解明する上で重要な意味をもつものと考えられる。残念ながらこれまでかかる課題に直接言及した研究は見当らず、荘園支配体制の基本的な変遷過程さえも、いまだ明らかにされているとはいいがたい。本稿は紀伊国荒川荘を中心に、これを「在家(免家) 支配」から「分田支配」へ、という過程においてとらえようとしたものである。その際、一つは公田＝公事地における年貢得分の支配を基本におくこと、今一つは荘園領主と農民との対抗関係を一貫して追究すること、この二つを課題追究の視点とした。これらは自明のこととみえながら、従来の研究がかかる観点からみて問題を含んでいたことは、陀羅尼田寄進と悪党問題を通じて具体的に検討したところである。またこの観点を基本にすえることによってはじめて、「分田支配」体制の意味もより明らかにしうると考えられるのである。

The late Kamakura era and the following two centuries are generally regarded as the downfall stage of the manorial system in Japan. The foundation of the manors belonging to Kongobu-ji temple 金剛峯寺 was, like most of the others, shaken in those days. In the 15th century, however, manor control system of Kongobu-ji was reorganized by means of so-called "Bunden-rule" 分田支配, first of all, over the manors around the temple. In throwing light on the characteristics of the manors belonging to Kongobu-ji, I think it important to clarify that process----from shaking to reorganization----and its significance, especially in connection with the transition of the rural social structure. To our regret, we can find few studies on this problem from such points of view. Even the fundamental process of transition of the manor control system has never been made clear. In this article I would like to take the case of Arakawa manor 荒川荘 in Kii province 紀伊国, and intend to grasp the change of its control system as the process from "Zaike-rule" 在家支配 to "Bunden-rule". I would like to take up this problem from two viewpoints as follows; one, to consider the control over the land-tax on Koden 公田; the other, to investigate into the contradiction between lord of the manor and peasants. These two viewpoints may look like a matter of course. But the former studies left something wanted in this respect as I have showed definitely in my article on "Akuto" 悪党 and the donation of "Daraniden". 陀羅尼田. These two viewpoints will enable us to make the significance of "Bunden-rule" system clearer.
