<論説>先秦時代の方孔圓錢について

Abstract

春秋戰國時代には東方の燕・齊國においては刀貨が、その西方の諸國では布(鏟形の貨幤) が流通していた。しかし戰國後半期になると、經濟活動の活潑化にともなつて、各國の通貨需要は增大する。先ず燕國で燕の齊國支配という状況下に刀貨の代替貨幤として明[]錢(方孔圓錢) が創作られる。この燕錢は齊にも影響を及ぼして齊の[]化錢の出現を促がす。やがて西方の強國で且つ後進國でもあつた秦も燕錢を模して重十二銖錢を鑄造する。この重十二銖錢が秦統一後の統一貨幤、半兩錢の先驅をなすことになる。ところで中國の貨幤は初め商人たちによつて造られたが、貨幤が普及するにつれて、徐々に都市の商人の貨幤から國家の貨幣へと變身する。刀貨や布は商人經濟の産物であり、都市名を刻んだが、方孔圓錢になると、様式は統一され、文字も重量や縁起のよい一般向のものが選ばれ、國家の法定貨幤としての性格をもつようになる。このように方孔圓錢は戰國後半期の通貨需要の增大という背景下に統一貨幤の先驅をなすものとして創作られたという意味で、中國貨幤史上重要な貨幤であるといえる。

In Ch'un-ch'iu-Chan-kuo 春秋戦国 era tao-huo 刀貨 sword-shaped coin was in circulation in the eastern countries of China such as Yen 燕 and Ch'i 斉, and pu 布 in the western countries. The growth of the economical action in the late Chan-kuo 戦国 era caused a large demand for money. First of all, in Yen, after Yen conquering Ch'i, was minted 明[]銭 or fan-k'ung-yüan-ch'ien, and used as a substitute of the tao-huo. Under the influence of this fan-k'ung-yüan-ch'ien of Yen, 賹貨銭 was minted in Ch'i and 重十二銖銭 in Ch'in 秦, a strong but less advanced country in western China. The latter may be regarded as the forerunner of pan-liang-ch'ien 半両銭, coin that went throughout China under Ch'in's rule. In the ancient China money was minted by the merchants at first, but as the money came into wide use, it came to be minted by a national mint bureau. Tao-huo and pu were the product of the merchants' economical action, and a city name was carved on their surface. On the other hand fan-k'ung-yüan-ch'ien had the same style. It was a legal money. Fan-k'ung-yüan-ch'ien, which was coined in the late Chankuo era, is the forerunner of the united monetary system. It is a very important coin in the money history of China.
