<論説>出挙の実態に関する一考察 : 備中国大税負死亡人帳を中心として

Abstract

正倉院文書の天平十一年備中国大税負死亡人帳は、正税出挙を個々の農民との関連で具体的に考察し得る唯一の確実な史料として貴重な存在である。小稿では本帳の分析を軸として出挙の実態を再検討する。まず、死亡例が三・五・六月に集中し、その多くが大量の稲穀を借りている事実とそれらの死亡日の特異性に注目する。次に、これは死亡者の負債免除の制度が巧みに利用された結果、出挙の時期と計帳手実の作成時期に規制されて顕れた現象であることを、春・夏の出挙時期や計帳・請暇解などの正倉院文書にみえる死亡記載の検討をとうして論証する。そして、郡司以下の在地支配層が出挙期以前の死亡者をもちいて、上記の操作を行なった可能性が濃いことを述べ、正税出挙の私的な運営状況を推測する。又、正税出挙が一般農民に果し得る機能の限界と、私出挙の必然的な存在理由を考え、在地支配層が公私両出挙を通じて地域農民を把握し、独自な活動をなすに至る過程を窺う。

The note of the dead men of Bitchiu 備中 charged with Taizei 大税 in the eleventh year of Tempyo 天平 in the Syosoin-Documents 正倉院文書 is a precious resource for studying concretely on Syozei-suiko 正税出挙 in relation to the individual peasant. In this article, I'll reinvestigate how Suiko 出挙 really was mainly through the analysis of this document. As the result of that investigation, it is asserted that landlords below the rank of Gunji 郡司 made skillful use of the institution of the debt immunity of the dead and that they managed the Syozei-Suiko system privately and I examine the process on which they controlled the peasantry under their influence by public and private Suiko 出挙 and made themselves conspicuous.
