<論説>アメリカ反帝国主義運動試論 : その諸グループと帝国主義理解を中心に

Abstract

本稿は、一九世紀末から二〇世紀初頭にかけて展開されたアメリカ反帝国主義運動を一つの社会運動として跡づけ、その新たな実態把握と性格規定を試みんとするものである。そのための方法として、第一に、考察対象を反帝国主義連盟の運動に限定することなく、その周辺で展開された様々な大衆的運動をも視野に入れ、第二に、それぞれの帝国主義理解をメルクマールとして、反帝国主義運動内における諸グループを分別し、第三に、その内容による運動の時期区分を行った。その結果、反帝国主義運動内には、帝国主義と独占の結合を感知している有力な部分が存在してはいたものの、総体として、その関心方向はきわめて「内向的」(あるいは内政優先) であり、革新主義へと合流する論理的必然性を有していたと結論づけた。

In this article, I will try to grasp the reality and define the character of the Anti-Imperialist Movement in the United States from the end of 19th. century to the dawn of 20th. century by tracing it as a social movement. To realize the above design, I will apply some approaches as follows; first, to include various popular movements outsides the Anti-Imperialist League as objects; second, to classify the persons concerned into some groups according to their respective understanding of imperialism; third, to divide its term of activities into some periods. Consequently, I will conclude that, in the movement, there existed a predominant group that perceived the inseparable combination between monopoly and imperialism. As a whole, however, the movement was concerned primarily with the domestic problems (so to speak, "inward movement"), so it was destined to flow into the Progressivism.
