<論説>ミヤケの地理的実体 : 畿内とその周辺における立地と地割の問題

Abstract

ミヤケの歴史地理学的研究の資料として「ミヤケ」・「イヌカイ」・「タベ」の地名を用いることができ、加えて国名地名もその一部は国造の国を示すものでミヤケ経営に使役された田部の出身国を表しているものと解されるものがある。史料にみられるミヤケ関係地名の分布をみると全体として交通路に沿って立地することが指摘され、このことはミヤケが軍事的あるいは経済的特質のいずれをおびたものにせよ、運輸・交通的機能と密接な関連をもって立地したことは否定できない。一方ミヤケ経営の景観的実体としては大和にみられるような統一的な条里地割が施行される以前の先駆的な方格地割が存在したことが推定される。つまり統一的な方位をもった一般条里の内部や縁辺部に異方位の地割があり、その付近にミヤケ関係地名が検出される事例が畿内とその周辺で少なからず見出すことができ、それらの共通項からミヤケに先駆的条里地割の施行されたことが推定される。これらの異方向地割の方位は、一部は考古学の発掘調査による遺搆の方位と合致するものがあり、年代的にいわゆる大化前代とみなすことが可能である。

As sources of the historio-geographical study on the Miyake, we can use the place names of Miyake, Inukai イヌカイ, Tabe タベ etc. And some of other place names seem to indicate the native country of Tabe, the slave working in Miyake, since they are traced back to the names of Kuni-no-Miyatsuko 国造 who governed the country. Researching the places named after Miyake, we find that they generally existed along the traffic lines. This means that Miyake whether it had a military or an economic significance, was settled with the design to fulfil the transporting and traffic functions. As for the phenomenon, we can assume that there hdad been Hokahu-Chiwari 方格地割 prior to the uniform Jyori-Chiwari 条里地割 as seen in Yamato. There are some deviating lines in and around the uniform Jyori-Chiwari areas, and we find many places named after Miyake around there. Such a phenomenon is commonly found in Kinai and its neighboring countries. From these facts we can conclude that Jyori-Chiwari was precedingly put in force in Miyake. Considering the conclusions of the recent archaeological research, we may say that Hokaku-Chiwari was already enforced in the pre-Taika 大化 era.
