<論説>畿内の家形石棺

Abstract

家形石棺は畿内の古墳時代後期における普遍的な遺物の一つである。本稿はその家形石棺を型式、石材、分布地域等より分析し、各要素が有機的に結びついた一つの個性ある石棺群を抽出するとともに、それらを「型」として捉え、その関係を追求することのなかに六、七世紀における畿内豪族層の政治的動向を窺おうとする基礎的作業である。その結果、畿内の家形石棺は五つの「型」と三つの「石棺群」として捉えられ、その動向は三つの画期を経ていることが明らかとなった。すなわち、五世紀後半における奈良盆地東部での家形石棺の発生、六世紀前葉における畿内各地域での家形石棺製作の開始、および六世紀末から七世紀初頭における家形石棺の斉一化の始まりがそれである。そこで、各時期における各「型」の関係を追求し、その意義を求めると、それらは推古朝、大化改新を経て律令体制へと向かう当時の政治的動向を葬送儀礼の面に反映したものと推察されるにいたった。

The house-shaped stone-coffins are well found in Kinai in the later old mound 古墳 periods. In this article, I analyse them as to the type, material, geographical distribution and so on, classify them into some distinctive groups or types which have common elements, and by examining the mutual relations of them, I investigate the political movements of the dynasties of Kinai. According to my examination, the house-shaped stone-coffins were classified to five 'types', and three 'groups', and their history had three turning points as follows, (1) the emergence of them at the east part of Nara basin 奈良盆地 in the second half of the fifth century, (2) the beginning of producting of them at every part of Kinai in the first half of the sixth century, and (3) the beginning of the uniformalization of them from the end of the sixth century to the first decades of the seventh. Therefore, investigating the mutual relations of the types at every period, and pursuing the meaning of the relations, this article concludes that the change of the house-shaped stone-coffins reflected, in the aspect of the funeral ceremony, the political movements of those days from the reign of empress Suiko 推古 and the Renovation of Taika 大化改新 unto the Ritsuryo 律令 regime.
