<論説>晋宋革命と江南社会

Abstract

晋宋革命は、貴族制社会の最盛期に起った東晋から宋への王朝革命である。従来の研究では費族、国家の側からのみ考察され、郷村社会の動向は軽視されてきた。しかしながら、この革命における郷村社会の役割は重要であった。東晋末、国家権力を利用した司馬道子等一部北人費族の私的収奪に対する郷村社会の不満は頂点に達していた。その結果郷村社会から起ったのが孫恩・蘆循の乱である。この状況に対し改革を図った北人貴族の王恭や軍閥の桓玄は、郷村社会の不満を解決できず、郷村社会の支持を失った結果失敗した。これに比べ、一寒門武人であった劉裕は、土断を中心とする郷村社会安定策を推進し、郷村社会をリードする南人土蒙の支持を受けて、王朝革命を成し遂げた。すなわち、郷村社会こそ晋宋革命を動かし、南朝的皇帝権を生み出した原動力であり、ここに見られる南人土豪の活躍は寒門寒人の政界進出の先蹤となるものであろう。

The Chin-Sung Revolution is a dynastic one which happened at the zenith of aristocratic society and brought about the change of regime from Eastern Chin 東晋 to Sung 宋. Up to the present it has been examined only from the side of the aristocracy and the state, and the movement of the rural community has been treated lightly. But the rural community played an essential part in the social change. In the last stage of Eastern Chin the exploitation by the aristocracy from the north, for example Ssŭ-ma Tao-tzu 司馬道子, aggravated the complaint of the community, so that it provoked the insurrection of Sun-En 孫恩 and Lu-Hsün 盧循. While some leading aristocrats, such as Wang-Kung 王恭 and Huan-Hsüan 桓玄, attempted to reform the condition unsuccessfully, Liu-Yü 劉裕, an officer of humble origin, could accomplish the dynastic revolution, pressing the policy for stabilizing the rural community, such as t'u-tuan 土断, and thus winning the support of the powerful families in Chiang-nan. After all it was the rural community that produced the imperial power of Southern Dynasties and in the process of social change the activity of the powerful families built the road to the political stage for the lower classes.
