<論説>『儀禮』と敦

Abstract

中國の周時代の宗教的、社會的な重要な行事の式次第を詳細に記した古典に『儀禮』がある。この書物の中でキビやアハの飯を盛る容器として敦が出てくる。漢代の注釋者以來、敦がどういふ形の器であるか正確な知識が缺如したままになってゐたが、近時の古器物の銘文の研究によってそれが明かにされ、また考古學の發達によってその使用の年代が前六世紀から前三世紀末に限られることも知られてゐる。『儀禮』中に敦の置き方について首 (頭) を南向きにせよ、と記される個所がある。筆者はこのやうな規定が適用されるのは前六世紀後半頃に多い特殊な型式の敦であることを明かにした。このことによってこの規定の生れた時代を特定することができる。また『儀禮』には大夫・士はキビやアハの飯を盛るのに排他的に敦を使用するやうに記される。敦を必須なものとして副葬してゐる小型墓は、戦國時代の楚の領域に限られ、華北には皆無である。このことにより、考古學の資料によって『儀禮』の生れた地域と年代を限定することができたと考へる。

In this article I would try to determine when and where dui (the ritual in the Zhou 周 period) was written, by considering the prescriptions on dui (a vessel for serving millet) in this book. We can presume its date by considering the prescription that dui had to be emplaced with its head to the south. It is because, according to the results of the recent studies of inscriptions on old vessels, dui with the head in this prescription belongs to the special type used just at the latter half of B. C. 6c. As to the place; we can presume the Ch'u 楚 district by considering the prescription that millet had to be exclusively served in dui. It is because the small tombs with dui as burial accessories have never been excavated in China but Ch'u.
