<論説>宗族の形成とその構造 : 明清時代の珠江デルタを対象として

Abstract

本稿においては、明清時代の珠江デルタを対象として、特定の地域における宗族形成の実態を追求した。その結果明らかにされたのは、明代中期以降、郷紳等の階層が、その在世中に商業・手工業経営、土地経営等を通じて獲得した家産を経済基盤として、宗法のもとでの族人結集、族田、祠堂等の共有財の設置を進めたことである。宗族組織の最大の特徴は、族人の科挙及第・任官を目的とした教育事業の遂行という点にあり、清代には、特定の「官族」が継続的に官僚等を輩出し、その他の「雑姓」とは区別されるような構造が成立した。かかる宗族の形成は、すでに宋代以来「世臣」の家系を確立する方法として追求されてきたものであるが、一五・一六世紀以降の時代に急速に展開した要因としては、郷紳が商品経済の進展を背景としてそれまでとは比較にならない程の所有の増殖を行い、これをもとに宗族樹立のために投資しえたことが考えられる。

This study is an attempt to make clear the actual conditions and function of the zongzu system in the Zhujiang delta during the Ming and the Qing periods. The local gentry, xiangshen 郷紳, as landlord, manufucturer, and merchant built up a considerable fortune, invested these funds in the zutian 族田, citang 祠堂 and so on and called relatives together in the Zhujiang delta after the mid-Ming period. The most important feature of the system was the education of these men to become bureaucrats. In fact, some zongzu groups, guanzu 官族, that produced many bureaucrats over a long period of time, appeared in the local societies of the Zhujiang delta during the Qing period. A plan to organize the system so widely as to produce more bureaucrats was already presented by the shidafu 士大夫 in the Song period, but the age of prosperity of this system came after the sixteenth century.
