<論説>守護城下山ロの形態と構造

Abstract

中世の地方政治中心である守護城下は、しばしば戦国城下町と比較され、その空間講造の未熟さが指摘されてきた。しかし資料的制限から、城下空間全体を対象として、その変遷過程を実証的に論じた事例研究は乏しく、戦国城下町との比較も容易に行うことができないと思われる。本稿では、守護城下諸施設の立地の傾向を示した上で、町空間の発達過程と武士邸の存在形態を検討し、中世山口の空間構造の変遷を論じた。山口の空間構造は、町空間の発達と密接に関連しつつ変遷し、都市領主である大内氏の統制力は限定された空心にしか及んでいなかったことが分かった。大内氏は、既存の町空間の実態を追認しており、武士邸の立地も町空間の発達に追随した場合もある。これは、大内氏の支配の限界とも評価できるが、町空間との共存、追認、利用という視点から大内氏の支配の特性をとらえなおすことも可能である。

In comparison with castle towns of the Sengoku period, the immaturity of the towns surrounding provincial constable's residences is often emphasized. Few case studies on the transitions of these towns are carried out because of the shortage of historical materials, making it difficult to compare them with later castle towns. This paper will 1) show the distribution of various functions and facilities in a representative town, 2) investigate the development process of various residential areas, and 3) examine how the spatial structure of Yamaguchi transformed in medieval times. It turns out that the transformation process of Yamaguchi had a close connection with the development of the urban area and the morphology of allotments. The control of the Ouchi at Yamaguchi does not seem to have been conprehensive, and the Ouchis officially confirmed the established town space including warriors residences, It is possible to regard these facts as evidences of limits on Ouchi power. But those facts also suggest the pre-existence of a developed urban area, and Ouchis' reconfirmation and application of the latter established town area.
