<論説>ラピタ文化複合の解体過程 : 特に土器の器形・装飾技法における編年的検討に基づいて

Abstract

本論はラピタ文化複合の展開について編年的考察を加えることを目的とする。特に、ラピタ文化複合の拡散と解体のプロセスを明らかにするためには編年的検討が不可欠であることを指摘する。1章ではラピタ土器の編年における先行研究を概観し、その問題点を指摘し、改めて型式学の適用の有効性を指摘する。2章、3章では、これまで検討が不十分であった土器の器形・装飾技法についての編年的検討をおこなう。最後の4章では、先行して筆者がおこなった土器文様の分析結果と、器形・装飾技法の分析結果を総合し、ラピタ土器の変化について総合的な編年的考察をおこなう。その結果、ラピタ文化複合は拡散の途上から既に解体に向かう構造を内包していることを明らかにした。

In this paper I make a chronological assessment of the dispersal of the Lapita cultural complex. A chronology is essential in clarifying the process of the diaspora and disappearance of Lapita. In the first section, I review previous chronological studies of Lapita pottery and take a critical look at the problems therein, arguing for the need of chrono-typological analysis. In the second and third sections, I analyze chronologically the forms of the vessels and the decorative techniques of the pottery, since they have previously been largely overlooked. Finally in the fourth section, I synthesize the results of the previous chapters and the Lapita design analyses in order to present a chronological framework of the Lapita cultural complex. Then I demonstrate the paradox that the very development and spread of the Lapita system led to the breakup of Lapita itself.
